Traffic Modelling

Opus’ traffic modelling specialists provide effective transportation modelling and economic evaluation solutions, using a wide range of macro, micro and intersection simulation models.  This supports a range of master planning and transportation planning scenarios, and integrates fully with our Planning and Environmental teams.

We have experts in all aspects of transportation modelling within New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the UK, and they have delivered many major land use assessments and evaluation of transportation infrastructure projects.

Four stage and network assignment modelling is used to assess the macro effects of new projects and land use changes.  This recognises the link between land use, urban design and transportation planning.  Micro simulation modelling is used to assess the effectiveness of projects and improvements at a vehicular level with realistic visual simulation which greatly assists the consultation process.  Intersection modelling and optimisation is also undertaken to provide operational improvements.

Perth Bunbury Highway Road and Land Use Study, Western Australia

Opus was commissioned to undertake traffic modelling, route and intersection analysis and development of an intersection treatment strategy for a section of the Perth-Bunbury Highway road corridor between Estuary Bridge and Dawesville Bridge, Mandurah. The brief involved researching previous studies of the area and identifying existing deficiencies with the current configuration and function, developing corridor options relevant to road function, estimation of the growth in population and land development, estimating future traffic volumes and predicting the demand on the proposed corridor options. Works involved intersection modelling analysis of each option, developing preliminary proposals for public discussion and preparing preliminary design drawings with our Auckland Office undertaking traffic modelling and intersection analysis.

City of Bunbury traffic modeling for City Vision 2030, Australia

Opus was commissioned to undertake various traffic modeling based on closing and extending various traffic routes within and surrounding the CBD as part of the Bunbury City Council “City Vision 2030” development. Opus modelled the Bunbury CBD network using SATURN and tested different traffic options for the year 2031.
