They enable the provision of movement, communication, comfort, and life safety. They are unavoidable if a building is to be functional. It is essential that architects, surveyors, builders, structural engineers, planners, estate managers and all those concerned with the construction of a building have a knowledge and appreciation of building services.
Britomart Transportation Centre, Auckland, New Zealand
The Britomart station is unique in that it is the only underground rail station in the world that services diesel-powered rolling stock. This imposed significant challenges to fire engineering, acoustics, and air quality. The Opus/Arup team developed innovative design solutions to meet these challenges.
