Opus provides a wide range of bridge engineering services. Our experts have extensive experience in the asset management of bridge stocks including inspection, maintenance, valuation and long-term asset management planning for a range of clients including local authorities, national road authorities and private organisations. 

Opus has extensive experience in the assessment of the strength of existing bridges and in techniques for strengthening bridges.  Our experts have developed and implemented risk assessment methodologies such as seismic screening and scour screening of bridges.  The investigation and design of new bridges for low-volume rural roads to high-volume arterials across a wide range of topographies is a core Opus activity.

Waianakarua North Bridge Widening, New Zealand

This historic 130-year-old multiple-arch bridge required widening and vertical alignment.  The innovative solution adopted by Opus involved stripping the bridge down to the arches, strengthening and widening it with reinforced concrete, and reinstating the original stonework.  This work won several awards, testimony to the innovation, quality and practicality of the design.

Northern Busway and Esmonde Interchange, Auckland, New Zealand

An upgrade of the interchange along the Auckland Northern Motorway included a new four-span motorway underpass, a Busway “Tunnel”, a new bridge spanning a creek, and the strengthening and retrofit of several existing bridges.
