Otago University Information Services Building, Dunedin, New Zealand

Country: New Zealand
Key Area: Buildings
Services: Architecture,Mechanical & Electrical Engineering,Structural Engineering

Opus worked in conjunction with American architects Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer in the design and documentation of the University’s new NZ$46 million Information Services Building.  The project included the remodelling of an existing building and its incorporation into a major new complex to form the focal point on the university campus.  The result is a striking glass structure with a magical, illuminated quality after dark.

The ISB incorporates sustainable design principles including high-tech glazing to minimise solar heat gain, extensive use of natural light, and automatically–controlled windows which, combined with open planning, allow distribution of fresh air.

The ISB is one of the University’s most efficient buildings.  The building is the winner of numerous industry awards, including a Property Council of New Zealand Award, an NZIA National Award, an ACENZ Silver Award and an EECA Energy Efficiency Award.
