Nose-in Guidance at Auckland International Airport, New Zealand

Country: New Zealand
Key Area: Transportation
Services: Asset Management,Valuation

Auckland International Airport's desire to be a leading airport enterprise has given Opus engineers the chance to evaluate some of the most advanced aerospace technology.

Murray Dickinson, Senior Electrical Engineer with Opus' Auckland M&E team, has been helping the airport company select automated aircraft nose-in guidance systems for the international terminal.  This technology has the capability of guiding some of the world's largest aircraft, including the new super Airbus A380, to the terminal air-bridge gate.
With the help of laser guidance, video equipment and aircraft recognition software, nose-in guidance systems assist pilots to correctly position their aircraft into the parking location at an assigned air-bridge.

Asset valuation is a key component in financial reporting and forms the basis for the calculation of airport landing charges. Fee setting has become a very public and highly litigious process. The stakes involved are high, with success hinging on the calibre of the specialists involved. Opus is recognised as a leading consultant in the valuation of these assets and was also engaged by Auckland International Airport to undertake the 2006 valuation of international and domestic airport infrastructure and specialised building assets.
