Whilst the use of concrete pavements in high traffic areas is not new, Opus has recent experience in designing and assisting a local contractor to construct a concrete pavement within a high stress urban roundabout site.

The traffic at this site could only be diverted for short lengths of time so the design needed to take into account timing of works, testing of the concrete to provide guidance on when the traffic could be allowed to run over the site, and consideration of surface finishes to provide sufficient surface texture to provide for future traffic safety.

This project required our Opus designers to work very closely with the client, the New Zealand Transport Agency (formerly Transit New Zealand), and the contractor, to provide an innovative and “buildable” solution.
