Young Achiever Award
2008
Paul Beetham, Principal Engineer – Geotechnical from Nottingham, United Kingdom
Paul Beetham is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with responsibility for project management/design and mentoring of four junior colleagues he has shown excellent leadership capability. On a range of projects, commencing with the Holbrook Sheffield project he has displayed a high level of technical capability; problem-solving skills; and the ability to develop a high degree of trust and respect with the contracting industry and with the teams he leads. Importantly,
Paul continues to strengthen his development by writing technical papers, or papers for journals, and presenting at conferences. This is an important aspect of his career and is a reflection of the energy and enthusiasm that he brings to his work.
Anna Robak, Environmental Engineer, Water Treatment, Auckland, New Zealand
Anna Robak has worked in a number of our offices, for which I applaud her, and from each she has developed a wonderful reputation for being a hard worker and a fast learner.
Anna has added considerable value to our operations in Paeroa, Hamilton, and now Auckland. She has excelled in her current role in our water treatment team and has developed excellent relationships with clients such as the Far North and Waikato District Councils. Anna has demonstrated a very positive can-do attitude and an immaculate work ethic that has earned her the respect of those around her and clients alike. Anna’s research and paper on the economic benefits of providing safe water supplies to communities is also a reflection of her drive and enthusiasm for delivering quality and innovative work.
Richard Butterworth, Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer, Doncaster, United Kingdom
Richard Butterworth has displayed excellent maturity in his leadership of the Geotechnical and Environmental team. As a Client Manager he has also displayed all the right attributes in ensuring that his team is committed to service excellence, being quality of work, timescales and communication.
Richard’s influence has been vital to our relationship with AMCO Rail and their decision to extend a two-year Trading Agreement to us for technical services is, I am sure, built on the back of the quality he has delivered.
Ben Symmons, Assistant Management Team Leader from Perth, Australia
Ben Symmons has developed the respect and trust of a large number of local Authority Clients in the Perth area, including: City of Joondalup, City of Gosnells, City of Freemantle, City of Swan and the City of Armadale, City of Rockingham and MainRoads WA. He has also recently been successful with securing our very first Asset Management term contract (3+1+1) with the City of Armadale.
Ben has made a significant contribution to introducing the concept of a term contract to the client, and assisted them with developing the brief and delivery mechanism required to meet their future Asset Management needs.
This clearly signals Ben’s "trusted adviser" status with them. Also congratulations to Ben for his efforts with the Institute of Public Works Engineers Australia (IPWEA), sitting on the Asset Management Committee and
being convenor of the Young Engineers group. His recognition in receiving IPWEA’s 2007 National Emerging Leaders Award was also well deserved.
