Ken Bourke, Regional Operations Manager, Brisbane, Australia
The early stages of joining two companies following acquisition is clearly a critical phase of the integration process.
Ken Bourke's commitment to this process has been, and continues to be, outstanding. He has fronted-up and provided leadership to a wide range of matters and has remained steadfast to ensure that the transition has been as smooth as possible. His ability to lead and influence change and the introduction of new systems has been critical.
Ken is extremely dedicated to the success of the business, and while being critical to the integration process, he has also continued to maintain an engineering role in many projects in the Brisbane office, as well as provide management support to offices within the region.

Barry Hemming, Architectural Documentation Manager, Christchurch, NZ
Barry’s professionalism and dedication are an example and inspiration for all those who have worked with him or for him. He is always totally committed to not only meeting, but exceeding, client expectations.
He is widely respected by colleagues, associated professionals, contractors, territorial authorities, project managers and clients, for his knowledge and expertise, and his willingness to share both. Barry is very personable, has a great sense of humour, and is an excellent mentor to new staff.
Throughout his career Barry has been involved in numerous, challenging and award winning architectural commissions. He is held in very high esteem within the profession and his proven past performance was the single most important factor in the company recently winning the prestigious Westfield Mall Redevelopment Project in Christchurch. This commission was awarded conditional upon Barry being the Opus Team Leader for the project.
Dave Loukes, Vice President, Geomatics/GIS, Fredericton, Canada
In December 2006 we were commissioned to manage, design and implement a geographic information system for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Transportation & Works. The original $360k budget has grown to $430k with an additional $160k expected in fiscal 2008/2009.
To successfully perform the required tasks for this project, a substantive amount of on-site time was necessary. During 2007, Dave spent approximately 120 working days in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This has involved substantive air travel and personal sacrifice.
The project has been very well received by the client (one NLDOT representative said “this is one of the best managed projects I have ever been involved with”) and Dave’s presence in St. John’s has contributed to additional Opus work being captured in asset management and transportation planning.
Dave’s commitment and dedication to his role in this growing market place for the complete range of Opus services has been outstanding.
Pathmanathan Brabhaharan, Principal, Geotechnical Engineering & Risk, Wellington, NZ
Brabha has shown outstanding commitment in growing the geotechnical team into a dominant position in the Wellington transportation market, in developing relationships with key clients Transit, On Track and Wellington CC, and his technical input to major projects.
Through his leadership, coaching and mentoring the team has developed into a very close, highly skilled, motivated and productive group. Brabha also played an important part in developing relationships with and selling our capability to key people in Transit NZ, On Track, Wellington City and Greater Wellington Regional Councils. This helped to position us to win major projects such as Transmission Gully Motorway and Kapiti Coast Rail Double Tracking.
Brabha also had project management and technical input into a large number of projects including Transmission Gully, Ngaio Walls, Kapiti Western Link Road, Wellington Inner City Bypass, Muldoons Corner, Rimutaka Hill Slope Retention D&C and Hutt Road Risk. He is also a very influential member of the Wellington Civil management team.
These achievements are the result of a huge commitment of time and energy on Brabha’s part.

Sophia displays great passion and enthusiasm for her work which both motivates the bidding team and inspires confidence in their delivering a quality bid. While Sophia is modest about her inputs, she is very highly regarded for her high volume of work, and the very high standard and quality of what she delivers. Sophia adds considerable value to our bid process, supported by an excellent success rate.
John Herbert, Design Draftsman, Bunbury, Australia
John's performance in delivering road data collection services for CALM in Western Australia over a nine-month period, was outstanding. Involving personal sacrifice and many hours of driving John collected and entered road inventory and condition data over some 7000km of the 14,000km of road that was required to be surveyed. John’s dedication and can-do attitude enabled the project to be delivered on time and to the client’s expectations. We now have an excellent relationship with this client, with the very strong potential for further work.
Helmut Houken, Principal Electrical Engineer, Auckland, New Zealand
Helmut has displayed extraordinary dedication and commitment in ensuring service excellence on the Otago Prison Project. Over a two-year period this has involved considerable periods of time working in Otago which clearly was at considerable personal sacrifice. In addition, Helmut continued to manage his other workload as Principal Electrical Engineer in Auckland, in an environment of significant conflicting demands.
Gerald Philpotts, Finance Manager, Cardiff, United Kingdom
Gerald's performance during the consolidation of our UK business into two operating entities, Opus International Consultants (UK) Ltd and SSE Ltd, was outstanding. This was a major undertaking for the finance and accounting team in Cardiff and Gerald consistently worked long hours to achieve each deadline set for the consolidation and then the production of the annual accounts for each of the consolidated entities. He did this at some considerable personal sacrifice and with a positive and willing attitude throughout.
2005
Rebekah Ward, Principal Environmental & Legal Consultant, Auckland, New Zealand
Rebekah has shown outstanding commitment in supporting the environmental management team in Auckland throughout 2005. During this time Rebekah accepted personal responsibility for ensuring that Opus met its commitments on many projects. In addition, she provided important mentoring support for other members of the planning team including the new business manager. A good example of Rebekah’s outstanding commitment has been with her approach to the Newmarket Viaduct project which has been undertaken in partnership with Beca. Key decisions were being made in isolation by some members of the project team which had huge ramifications for the project as a whole. Rebekah worked tirelessly to ensure that the ramifications of these decisions were properly considered to ensure that a high quality product was ultimately delivered within the project timetable. This was achieved against very challenging odds. All of this took place in the context of Rebekah’s personal commitment to other projects, bids and general business activities.
Annabelle Barrington, Project Architect, London, United Kingdom
Annabelle has been the lead architect and contract administrator for the Luton business park development. This is the first such project for Opus in the UK as a multi-disciplinary consultant. Annabelle has maintained a truly professional attitude throughout and has worked tirelessly to deliver the project to the satisfaction of the client, from conception through to final account with the contractor. She has often worked in her own time during evenings and weekends to ensure that the project kept to the programme. She has remained entirely focused on the project, realising early on that Opus would be measured on its performance by the first time developer, and that this performance would influence the client when choosing a professional team to deliver future projects. The client has been most impressed with Annabelle’s positive and proactive attitude and her unstinting commitment and dedication, and is now considering using Opus again in the near future.
Kim Corey, Administrative Assistant, Fredericton, Canada
Kim's position entails the preparation of payroll, accounts receivable/payable, bank reconciliations and the supervision of office support functions. As the sole finance and accounting representative in Canada during 2005, Kim has been under considerable pressure to deliver sound and timely financial and accounting services. This responsibility has translated into a dedication involving long hours of work at the office, after hours work at home during evenings and weekends, cross-training of Susan Breen in the Fredericton office, and Renee Nygren in the Victoria office, and two trips to New Zealand for training. Kim has successfully made the transition from Advantage to Vision. She has progressed her skills to the point where she is now a key resource in the integration of financial systems for the recently acquired Opus Hamilton in Vancouver.
