OPUS REUNITES FORMER NZ STAFF IN THE UK
Former Opus employees, representing some fourteen New Zealand offices, enjoyed a reunion held at NZ House in London last week.
New Zealand’s Trade Commissioner (UK & Ireland), Michelle Templer, opened ‘Opus Reunited’, praising Opus’ achievement in growing its business overseas, and winning the 2006 New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Service Exporter and Supreme Exporter of the Year awards.
Opus in 2007 is a global business with 71 offices across the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. NZ employees on their OE, including some fresh-off the plane, took advantage of the reunion to ‘catch up’ with some familiar faces from back home. Viewing London’s skyline from the Penthouse’s deck proved popular, whilst attendees enjoyed traditional New Zealand fare.
Employees originally from NZ who are now part of the UK business also attended; sharing the benefits of experiences gained working for Opus overseas with former colleagues. They discussed the many similarities between the work in the two countries, such as the large local authority client-base. The specialist work undertaken in the UK, such as the restoration of castles and engineering work carried out by Opus’ underwater engineers was also highlighted.
Although the city of London is a primary draw to Kiwis who choose to work in the UK, the benefits of Opus’ other seven UK office locations within major cities and towns were celebrated by staff members representing these offices.
