Structural engineering can be found across all areas of Opus, highlighting the diversity of our experience in this field.

We have experts in building design across New Zealand, Australia and the UK and have been part of many landmark and award winning projects. Other areas of expertise include telecommunications where we have an enormous amount of experience in tower design, earthquake engineering where we have been responsible for the seismic upgrade of structures across New Zealand for various clients, marine structures for which we have teams in UK and New Zealand, and the design of structures in extreme environments where we have designed Antarctic facilities at Scott Base. Opus’ civil structures design experience is also significant, having designed many water treatment facilities in New Zealand and UK.

Austin Hospital and the Mercy Women's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia

Opus and JMP undertook a joint venture together on this project which involved the design of Victoria’s largest hospital. Both structural and civil engineering consultancy was provided.

Brisbane Square, Brisbane, Australia

Brisbane Square is the latest landmark high rise tower for Brisbane, rising 40 levels above the Brisbane River at North Quay. The $198 million project comprises of 81,000 square metres of gross floor area and 50,000 square metres of net lettable floor area. The lower six levels are made up of low rise commercial and retail space and a basement of 350 car parks. The commercial building’s sought after location, on an entire city block between Queen Street Mall and the Brisbane River, combined with its design; make it the latest social and cultural hub of the city.

Northern Busway and Esmonde Interchange, New Zealand

The Northern Busway will provide a major public transport facility between North Shore and Auckland Cities to enable rapid transit bus services.  Opus has been central to the development of the Busway, and the associated Esmonde Interchange since 1997 and led the detailed design and construction management phases for the southern sector and the Busway stations.
